MAP testing for this school year, 2012-2013, has concluded.  A great big thank you to all of the hard the students did to complete this year's testing!

Next Tuesday, 5/7, is the Annual Fishing Day.

Science continues to cover the water cycle, while Social Studies is looking at world religions.

The next 3 week will be filled with field trips and work.

A look ahead to next week, and some important dates coming before the end of the year.

Monday, 4/29, Partners in Strength will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Fifth grade testing for MAP will continue in Tuesday and Wednesday in the area of Science.

The sixth graders will be continuing with their DLR, spelling, and dictionary skills.  They will be completing their poetry assignments.

In math we will be working on coordinates, area, perimeter, and volume.  We will continue to review our multiplication skills.

Science will be continuing with the water cycle.  Social Studies is looking at the religions of the world.

Tuesday, May 7th, is the date for the outdoor fishing day at the Andy Dalton Conservation Center.

Progress grades will be coming home on Tuesday, 04/23.

MAP testing will take place Monday through Thursday.

The students will have a half day on Friday, 04/26.

As the second full week of April comes to a close, we are left wondering, just where is Spring?

We are gearing up for MAP testing.  The 5th and 6th grades will be taking the Communication Arts and Math portions of the test the week of April 22.  The week will round out with a 1/2 day on Friday, April 26.  The 5th grade will be taking the Science portion on April 30 and May 1.

Fourth quarter progress grades will be sent home on April 23, as the mid quarter ends on April 19.

Please continue to be on the lookout for permission slips coming home.

Partners in Strength will be Monday, April 29, at 6:00 p.m.

Fishing Day is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7.

As we enter the month of April, it is time to start entering some dates on your calendar.

Our annual fishing day will be Tuesday, May 7th.

Welcome back from Spring Break. 
The first day of Spring was Wednesday, then we get a snow storm on Thursday.  Such are the joys of living in the Ozarks.
We are starting the fourth quarter by working with long division, ratios, and patterns in Math.
In Communication Arts we are working on commas and punctuation marks. (Check out the Links)
In Science we are looking at weather and weathering.  In Social Studies the subject is Ancient India.

A look ahead to next week.  If we don't have any more surprise winter weather, there will be a four day weekend over Easter.

Another shortened week with the second snow day in the past two weeks.
In Language Arts, the students are still working on the DLR, spelling, word search, and writing in their journals.   The spelling test was taken on the Spelling City website.
In Math, we have been working on 2 and 3 digit multiplication, percentages, decimals, and fractions.
Social Studies is still studying Egypt.  Science is working on metamorphic rocks and minerals.

Next Friday will be a half day for students, with school dismissing at 12:30 p.m.  Friday also marks the end of the third quarter.  Grade cards will be sent out on Tuesday, March 19th.

As a reminder, Spring Break will be the week of March 11 through the 15th.

With a 4 day week turning into an 'ice day' 3 day week, we are adjusting to the curriculum.
In Language Arts we have been working on the DLR.  We utilized Spelling City for or spelling.

In keeping with the theme of Black History Month, we watched "Rubie Bridges" and then wrote 2 paragraphs about what we learned from the movie.
In Math we are working on 3 digit by 3 digit multiplication and percentages.
For Social Studies we are still in Egypt and the subjects are pyramids and sarcophagus.
In Science the topic is minerals.

The school year keeps marching along.  The end of the third quarter is less than three weeks away.  The quarter ends on Friday 03/08, right before spring break begins.  In addition, Friday 03/08 will be an early out for students.

Third quarter progress reports will be sent home next Monday, 02/11.  There are 1 1/2 quarters left in this school year.
In Language Arts, we will begin covering fables and poetry.
We continue lattice multiplication, proportions, graphs, and money in math.

The next two weeks will be four day weeks for the students.  There will be no school for students on Friday, 2/15 and Monday, 2/18.

The third quarter progress time period ends next Tuesday, 02/05.  Progress grades will be sent home on Monday, 02/11.

We are halfway through the 3rd quarter and are completing progress assignments in Communication Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
Be looking for grades a week from this Monday.

For the last Monday in January, we are enjoying some unusual warm weather with the temperature approaching 70.  This will all change on Wednesday when we get back to some seasonal weather.
The students are working on a number of different projects.
In Communication Arts, along with the DLR, spelling, and journal writing, we are incorporating some Science research on African animals.  The students contunue to work on their reading logs and prepare for their booktaslk.
In Social Studies the topic continues with the study of Egypt.
For Math we are working on geometry, perimeter, area, and rates.

As we look toward the first week of February, 3rd quarter Progress ends on the 5th, with grades going home on Monday the 11th.

As the first week after the break comes to a close, the students are getting back into a rhythm.
In Communication Arts we continue with spelling and our DLR (Daily Language Review).  We are also incorporating reading skills with Science (minerals) and Social Studies (Egypt) by utilizing Raz-Kids and the netbooks.
In Math, we are studying geomentry and dividing decimals.

As a reminder, school will not be in session on Monday, 01/14.  Have a great three day weekend!

Welcome Back!

As we start the 2nd semester, here are a few reminders.

Grade cards will be sent out on Tuesday 01/08.

Next week will be a 4 day week for students.  School will not be in session on Monday 01/14.

The students are gearing up for the last half of the year.  We have started back with our Communication Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  We are looking forward to getting back into learning mode for the beginning of 2013!
